ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico's attorney general has made his pick on who he wants to represent the southern region of the state.

On Sunday morning Hector Balderas announced his endorsement for New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District. He's backing Xochitl Torres Small, a water rights lawyer from Las Cruces who is running for the Democratic nomination.

According to Cook Political Report, Small is well connected with liberal activists, but is also a gun owner and a hunter.

The 2nd District is the seat being vacated by Steve Pearce, who is running for governor.
