Aztec High students to join March for Our Lives in DC

WASHINGTON -- With school shootings all too frequent and kids dying to gun violence, students from around the country will protest on the nation's capital this weekend during the March for Our Lives.

Some students from Aztec High School will be there. They understand this issue first hand. In December, an armed 21-year-old disguised himself as a student, entered the campus and opened fire. Before taking his own life, he killed Casey Jordan Marquez and Paco Fernandez.

The students' message is simple. They are calling on the nation's leaders to make schools safer.

Before leaving New Mexico, KOB met with the students who will be protesting and learned while they are on campus, they are fearful. Watch the video above to hear what they have to say.

On Friday, the students will have their first chance at delivering their message to Washington lawmakers.

They're scheduled to meet with Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., in his Capitol Office. It's a chance for these students who witnessed gun violence in their school firsthand to express to someone in this town who can make a real difference on their behalf.

KOB will have more on their protest throughout the weekend.
