Eye on New Mexico: Billion dollar scamming industry

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — On this week's edition of Eye on New Mexico, Colton Shone discussed scamming New Mexico. Fraudulently taking people's money is a billion dollar industry, and it's hitting New Mexicans hard.

According to a new study put out by Comparitech, there's an estimated 5 million cases of elder fraud every year, with losses topping $27 billion. In New Mexico alone, there's an estimated 34,130 cases, losing a projected $143 million.
