ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Governor-elect, Michelle Lujan Grisham is preparing the beginning stages of her transition into office.

She announced Wednesday that she is putting together a new team that will start looking into the state departments to identify strengths, issues and new leadership positions.

Lujan Grisham said part of that process will include meeting with Governor Susana Martinez and the current leadership from the state legislator.

The Governor-elect campaigned on priority issues like, education and child welfare, which are now front and center.

“I want to build a system that represents and reflects New Mexico’s new set of priorities,” Lujan Grisham said.

Lujan Grisham announced that former U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman will lead her new transition team.

“The two big tasks that I see for the transition team are the ones you've described. Identifying the people that you want in this new administration to help you carry out your vision and agenda,” Bingaman said.

Lujan Grisham’s transition team will start examining state departments across New Mexico. She is relying on Bingaman to help recruit the best and brightest for her transition team.

“He will assist me in identifying transition team members whose jobs it will be to look at each of these departments and identify issues, strengths, strategies so that we're ready unequivocally for the 2019 session,” Lujan Grisham said.

Bingaman along with Dominic Gabello, who worked on Lujan Grisham’s campaigns, are the only transition leadership announcements so far.

“We're open for business,” She said, “We're getting great support from the current administration who said ‘whatever we need.’ I have incredible leadership ready to go.”
