ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In a battle of winless programs Saturday evening in Sun Bowl Stadium, it was the New Mexico State Aggies who tallied their first win of 2018 on the gridiron, beating the University of Texas at El Paso 27-20.

NMSU won their first game since last year's Arizona Bowl, improving their record to 1-4 this year.

The Aggie defense played a big role in the victory, sacking Miners quarterback Kai Locksley eight times and intercepting him once. They also prevented them from ever garnering much momentum, as UTEP didn't score more than a touchdown in any of the four periods.

After a bye week next weekend, NMSU will battle Liberty on Oct. 6 in Las Cruces in their Homecoming matchup.
