Ex-UNM basketball staffer indicted on embezzlement charge

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A grand jury has indicted former University of New Mexico basketball staffer Cody Hopkins for allegedly embezzling $63,411 through unauthorized purchases on his university credit card.
Bernalillo County District Attorney spokesperson Michael Patrick said this indictment stems from a 2015 university audit and was not prompted by the current budget deficit within the UNM athletic department.
The indictment reveals that Hopkins is accused of altering or forging receipts in 2015 from Brian Snow Scouting LLC, Mike Mitchell Midwest Scouting Service, U.S.A. Youth Hoops, UA-All America for Alan Huss and Under Armour Association.
Hopkins is being represented by attorneys Jessica Hernandez and Paul Kennedy.He currently resides in Texas. "Mr. Hopkins has been waiting years for the opportunity to respond to these allegations," Hernandez said in a statement. "He looks forward to finally being able to defend against the allegations and vindicate himself in court."
UNM officials said they don't have a statement in the matter.
