ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNM Board of Regents will decide which sports stay and which sports go on July 19.

One sport under the gun is Jeremy Fishbein’s men's soccer program. He says the waiting has been an emotional journey.

“Oh, it's agony. It's a roller coaster. You try to put your head down, you're energized by our guys," Fishbein said.

Fishbein is one of the most successful coaches at UNM. In fact, he has taken his team to the Final Four twice.

But he says players have accomplished so much more.

"Doctors, lawyers, we got a guy who just got his PhD from Stanford," Fishbein said.

For many, it's hard to understand how the men's soccer program has to pay the price for huge deficit spending by a previous administration, but that is where Jeremy Fishbein is right now.

"What kind of message are we sending as a public institution,” Fishebein asked.
