SANTA FE, N.M. – Lobo alumni were out in full force on the first day of Santa Fe Lobo camp.

Players from the recent and distant past gathered to help head coach Paul Weir and his coaching staff bring some basketball to the kids in northern New Mexico.

Alex Kirk, who played pro ball in Japan last season, was on hand and said the camps played a big role in his own burgeoning basketball career years ago.

"Camp gave me an opportunity to see people play against different players and get some role models. For example, there is (former Lobo basketball players) Daniel Faris and Roman Martinez—that is who I want to be someday," Kirk said on Saturday. "So that was always cool. I didn't get down to a ton of UNM camps later in my career; I went to elite camps and the teams camps."
