As usual, coach Ray Birmingham will test his team right away. They're heading to the Suprise tournament in Arizona.

On Friday, Lobos open up with eighth-ranked Oregon State, the defending national champion.

Teams with that kind of championship pedigree are exactly who the Lobos want.

"The kids that will be here the next year realize the level that they have to be," Birmingham said. "I'm a firm believer you rise to the level of your competition."

Lobo baseball will be facing Oregon State twice in four days. Friday is the opener, then again on Monday.

The Lobos will play Minnesota on Saturday, and Gonzaga on Sunday.
