ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico bragging rights are back in Albuquerque, after UNM football beat New Mexico State 42-25.

It was the Lobos' first victory in the Rio Grande Rivalry since 2015. Leading the way was the team's defense, which intercepted the Aggies five times.

Two of those picks came via redshirt freshman Marcus Hayes, who returned the final pick of the game for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

"It feels good, definitely. Like, it's good to beat them. I got that chip on my shoulder because we lost to them two years in a row, but I was really doing it for my teammates, my seniors," Hayes said. "I know that they don't want to lose this year because I know that would hurt, so I just did it for them."
