Hayes had two interceptions, including a pick-six, against New Mexico State.

He credits the rest of the defense for his success.

“We trust each other enough to be able to make plays, and we're all just able to know what each other is going to do and it just allows us to make plays," Hayes said.

The defense may be looking for another playmaker at linebacker.

Coach Bob Davie confirmed Alex Hart suffered a knee injury Saturday. He will undergo an MRI Tuesday.

Hart, a defensive captain, is second on the team in tackles.

He has the option to redshirt and be eligible to play next year.
