ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A Saturday scrimmage marked the end of a long preseason camp for the Lobo football team as the season kicks off in two weeks.

It was also the sixth day in a row for the team without a day off.

"Today was the ultimate work day. Everybody knew it was going to be a grind, everybody knew it was going to be," head coach Bob Davie said. "It's 10:30 on Saturday morning with the sun shining, and it was a work grind day."

The quarterback battle gained more steam, with Tevaka Tuioti, Coltin Gerhart and Trae Hall all taking snaps for New Mexico.

Davie has until Sept. 1 to decide who will start under center when the Lobos take on Incarnate Word at Dreamstyle Stadium.

Concerning the ongoing place-kicker battle, Davie said Danny Sutton will likely be who he turns to for kickoffs when the season begins. Eldorado grad Andrew Shelley was impressive in Saturday's scrimmage, and if the season began immediately, Davie said Shelley would be the one kicking field goals.
