ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – As organizers gear up for the New Mexico Bowl game this weekend, the city of Albuquerque may see an economic boost during one of the slowest tourism weeks of the year.

The Dreamstyle Arena will play host to Utah State and North Texas Saturday at noon.

Since both teams are regional and from bordering states, organizers are hoping for a major boost to the local economy.

"This is a college football bowl game, there's 34-35 communities in America that have one and we do,” said Jeff Siembieda, New Mexico Bowl Executive Director. “It's pumping real tangible dollars into our economy. There's going to be thousands of people that come to our community solely for this event."

According to Visit Albuquerque, the bowl game brings in an average of more than $3.5 million. This upsurge of money comes at one of the city’s slowest tourism weeks of the year.

The New Mexico did lose its title sponsor, Gildan Clothing Company, but officials said the loss won’t have a significant effect.

"Yea, the intent is to have a title sponsor. That's the model. But, we have contingencies for a situation like this, where we don't. Where we're healthy, we're strong, we're not in trouble. And, obviously, ideally we'll have a title sponsor next year,” said Siembieda.

Organizers expect about 28,000 people to nearly fill the stadium on Saturday.
