ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico softball's first season with Paula Congleton at the helm is flying by.The former Lobo softball star took over the program after a long coaching career in California.

The first season has been a challenge. The team has gone 12-31 so far, 5-10 in conference play. Those are growing pains for a coach trying to build something special.

"We'll get there as we change the culture. We're going to be one of those top teams in the nation. I look forward to that," she said. "We've got some great recruits coming in next year. We'll keep recruiting over the summer and keep things going."

The Lobos are on the road at Arizona Wednesday.
