Pitch Perfect: Soccer fans fill Isotopes Park

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Local soccer fans got their first glimpse at what a pitch will look like inside Isotopes Park.

Liga MX rivals Tigres played Guerreros Santos Laguna in an exhibition match Wednesday.

Thousands filled the stadium, which is traditionally used for Triple-A baseball games.

However, as KOB previously reported, New Mexico’s United Soccer League team will use the ballpark for their soccer games, starting in March.

The franchise recently unveiled its name -- New Mexico United – and announced plans to convert the baseball diamond into a soccer field during their season.

The club’s owner, Peter Trevisani, told KOB, “It's so exciting. The energy here. The atmosphere here. To think in four months we'll be doing this with New Mexico's own team.”

Trevisani said he was taking notes but was really pleased with the new layout.

"The grounds crew from the Isotopes are second to none so it is an amazing pitch," he said.

On Thursday, New Mexico United will hold a "Meet Your Seat" event where fans will have the chance to take a first-hand look at the pitch and purchase season tickets.

That event starts at 4 p.m. at Isotopes Park.
