What are some of your favorite movies?

Too many to choose from! In no specific order, Forrest Gump, The Help, Elf, Step Brothers, Hidden Figures, La La Land, pretty much all the classic Disney movies and Marvel movies.

What do you like to watch on television?

Friends and Game of Thrones. Silicon Valley is my current binge. Netflix rules.

What's your favorite social media app?

Instagram is my favorite. I really just post day to day things, my dog, skating related things, family/friends.

Tell us about your dog.

I have a phantom toy poodle named Henry and he's awesome. He's full of love and energy! He always puts a smile on my face and he brings so much joy to everyone he meets.

What's the most grueling workout you've ever done?

Typically our summer workouts on Fridays are killer. I can say all of those are pretty grueling.

What would people be surprised to learn about training for the Olympics?

The training never stops, even when you aren't practicing your craft directly, you still think about it and do things out of practice to help you when you go back to practice, such as eating right, taking care of your body with proper recovery. I find myself always thinking of ways I can improve day to day and be more efficient with my time.

What's your earliest memory of seeing figure skating or the Olympics?

Watching Michelle Kwan on TV and trying to do jumps in the living room. I just loved figure skating and why stop doing something you love? She really was my biggest inspiration. She's got class, a wicked good work ethic and positive attitude. I even had her video game!

What's something weird or intense about ice dancing that people don't normally see?

Well the whole sport is cool, weird, and intense, you have people launching themselves across a big sheet of ice with little (or big, depending on the foot size) blades attached to their feet. And you will usually find us in some sparkly get up when we compete. I would say the hardest part is making everything look easy and effortless!!

What are some misconceptions about figure skating that you want to clear up?

It's not effortless and easy. Everyone in this sport works very hard to perfect their programs every year. And it's tough, yet exciting to start over at the end of the season. You basically start from scratch and have to come up with new programs, elements, everything.

Who do you socialize most within the figure skating world?

My skating partner Evan, we are together all the time. It's almost like reading my favorite book, I can often see what he's thinking by a single look and other times he can still take me by surprise, especially with his creative ideas. Not that I'm surprised he is creative, I very well know that he is! It's just so beautiful to watch an idea he has blossom into fruition right on the spot.

I also spend a lot of time talking to my two best friends who are singles and pairs skaters.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

It will all be ok.

What's your biggest fear when you're competing?

Usually, we are so trained going into competition I only have room to focus on what needs to be done and there isn't any space for fear.

Do you have any other fears?

Snakes, spiders, anything creepy crawly, really.

What other sports did you play as a child?

Not anymore, I used to do gymnastics, but when I got more committed to skating it became too much of a risk to continue.

Is there a Summer Olympic sport you'd like to try out?

If I was a foot taller I would be all over beach volleyball!

What's the best part of being an elite Olympic athlete?

Proudly wearing the Olympic rings.

Can you speak any other languages?

None fluently, but I'm learning French on Duolingo and try to pick up things when I travel to other countries.

Do you collect anything?

I collect shoes!! I love shoes.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I love drawing and sketching.

What are some of your favorite magazines?

Instyle, Vogue, Health, InShape, Elle, Home Décor

What would you be doing if you were not an athlete?

I would love to be a fashion designer or involved in the fashion world.

How do you unwind after a competition?

Sleep… a lot

Do you like to travel? Where was the most special place you've been?

I love traveling! Italy really moved my belly in a yummy way. Hawaii is my favorite place that I've been to, I really connect with the islands and feel like the best most relaxed version of myself when I am there. The beauty of the islands always amazes me.

What do you like to do with your time off?

I love reading, you can always get lost in a good book. Yoga feels good for my body as well as my mind. Playing with my puppy for obvious reasons. Hanging out with friends and family, staying connected to those you love is so important and even more enjoyable face to face. Drawing, sketching, painting are my favorite things to do when I'm feeling colorful or inspired. I wish there were more hours in the day. Oh and shopping, I love shopping I can't believe I almost forgot to mention that. Although I wish I didn't enjoy shopping as much as I do – it's bad for the wallet.

Describe your perfect day.

It would have to start with brunch. I love brunch, but who doesn't? Throw in a bike ride or a yoga class, or both! Playtime with my dog and reading a good book, preferably outside by a body of water.
