ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNM men’s soccer team is the biggest program to learn it will be cut after the UNM Board of Regents’ vote.

However, the program did not go down without a fight.

Dozens of soccer players and coaches from UNM and local high school showed up to the meeting.

They all asked the Board of Regents to save the program.

"My father played here, so it's like a really important deal, not only for me and for my family but for the community as well," said Cibola High School senior Matt Berlint.

UNM Head Soccer Coach Jeremy Fishbein spoke for about 15 minutes during the Regents' meeting, making an impassioned plea.

But in the end, he couldn’t get the votes he needed to save the program.

"I have to support the decision,” Fishbein said. “I don't know, at this point, how to carry-on exactly."
