ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Former Lobo David Chiotti is back at the basketball complex.

Chiotti is a couple of days into his new job as the team's director of player personnel. He played four seasons at UNM, racking up more than 1,100 points and 600 rebounds.

"I don't want to say I'm a life coach or anything like that, but I think my experiences of professional basketball, my experiences here are all invaluable to this program and to this team," Chiotti said.

New head coach Paul Weir wasn't familiar with Chiotti when Weir arrived at UNM, but Chiotti made a good first impression.

"There was a guy out front in a suit, waiting to speak to me all day," Weir said. "I didn't know. Who is this guy?  He said, 'Coach, I didn't have an appointment. I just wanted to speak with you.'"

The men's basketball team will hold open tryouts on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Davalos Basketball Center next to The Pit. The team is looking for a potential walk-on.
