UNM women beat Rice, advance in WNIT

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The New Mexico women's basketball team kept their postseason run going by capturing a 93-73 victory over Rice in the Women's NIT second round Tuesday night.


Four Lobos hit double figures, including two with at least 20 points. Jaisa Nunn led the way with 28 points on 11 of 15 shooting, while Cherise Beynon added another 20. Tesha Buck scored 18 and Madi Washington had 11 off the bench.

UNM outscored Rice in each quarter, including 20-11 in the second quarter. The Lobos also connected on 56.7 percent of their shots from the field, containing the Owls to 43.5.

Rice lost despite a 31-point effort from Erica Ogwumike. No other Rice player scored more than eight, although each Owl who saw time on the floor reached the scoring column.

The Lobos will take on TCU Thursday at Dreamstyle Arena for the third round of the WNIT.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are available online by clicking here, or can be purchased in person starting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the ticket office at Dreamstyle Arena.
