ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Tyson Dyer, punter for the UNM football team, has a love for cars.

“My dad was a mechanic so I've been around cars pretty much my whole life,” he said. “First thing my dad taught me was to change a tire.”

After high school, Dyer followed in his dad’s footsteps

“Once I realized I wanted to be a mechanic, I enrolled into trade college (and) worked on cars out of high school for about nine years,” he said.

In 2014, Dyer packed his bags for Canada to move closer to his girlfriend. He landed a mechanic job while coaching an Australian-rules football team.

“It was a good experience for me,” Dyer said. “I feel like I've become a better mechanic because of it.”

Two years later, Dyer decided to pursue college football

His kicking ability in Australian-rules football helped him nab a punting position spot.

He started off at Palomar Junior College in San Diego, Calfornia before transferring to UNM.
