UNM women's soccer team aiming for MWC championship

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -  The UNM women’s soccer team has its sights set on a Mountain West Conference title.


The Lobos ended 2017 losing in the Mountain West championship game.

Heather Dyche enters her fourth season as head coach.

She lost ten seniors after graduation. This year, there will be three seniors on the team. Coach Dyche knows the team will have to grow up quick.

“I think we're very talented. It's just going to be how quickly we can find that same grit that we had last year," said Dyche. “Our roster is going to be dramatically different but one of the things we did last year was get quite a lot of meaningful minutes for some of our younger players.”

Dyche says losing in the championship game last year left the team with a burning desire to make it back and earn a berth to the NCAA tournament.

"For us, I just think it lit a fire. It's something I know in the locker room we talk about a lot that we were so close and certain things happened that prevented us from getting there," Dyche said.
