ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Lobo guard Anthony Mathis spoke publicly for the first time since the NCAA granted him a fifth year of eligibility.

Last season, Mathis set the single-season record for most three point field goals. Mathis said a variety of factors played a part in having a stellar season.

"It was just a lot of things that fell into place,” Mathis said. “It wasn't one specific thing.”

Mathis said the possibility of playing another season with the Lobos was in the back of his mind last season.

Coach Paul Weir is happy to have him back.

“He's a five-star human being, person, teammate. He's terrific,” Weir said. “I'm really happy for him that he's going to get a chance to go and do this because it was something he really wanted.”
