ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It started as a typical morning commute for Anna Chavez – but then she heard a loud bang while she was driving east on I-40 just before the Big I.

"Like something fell on the roof of my car, but it was very loud," Chavez said. "Like a boom! I started hearing like, hard rain falling from the roof of my car, like pouring."

It wasn’t rain though, it was shattered glass from the sunroof falling onto the sunshade. She drove straight to an auto shop where they told her the damage was from a gunshot and a bullet could still be lodged inside.

Chavez said she waited three hours for police Wednesday, and then Thursday morning police got to her car to see if a bullet was lodged inside.

"I’ve never had anything happen to me like this, ever," Chavez said. "I hear it, but personally, to me, I’ve never had anything like this happen – where it kind of makes you think, this could have been my last day on this earth."

Chavez said her grandson could’ve been in the car with her, because she drops him off at school every morning.
