ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Navajo Division of Public Safety canceled an Amber Alert after four missing children were found safe.

The children were found unharmed after the Navajo Police Department was contacted by suspect Rumaldo Peshlakai, their father, who told law enforcement about the children’s location. Navajo and federal law enforcement responded to the location where they found the children. Peshlakai was not there and has not been located.

The multi-agency search for the children began Thursday when the Navajo Police Department received a call reporting a domestic situation involving Peshlakai. He reportedly fled the scene with the children in a maroon GMC Yukon and made statements to harm the children. The vehicle was found abandoned with Peshlakai and the children believed to be on foot in the area.

The search was coordinated by the Navajo Police Department, Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and the Navajo Department of Emergency Management, with assistance from New Mexico State Police, McKinley County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

Anyone with information regarding Peshlakai is encouraged to call the Navajo Police Department Window Rock District at 928-871-6112 or dial 911.
