APD arrests suspect accused of killing man with tree branch

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – APD arrested and charged a Santo Domingo Pueblo man accused of a homicide in southeast Albuquerque.

Keith Bird, 50, was arrested after admitting to police he killed another man during a dispute Monday. Bird told police he arrived in Albuquerque, bought alcohol and drank with friends in the area of 2950 Central Ave. SE.

At some point, Bird started arguing with another man who he then fought in an alley behind 112 Vassar Dr. SE, west of Girard Boulevard SE. Bird admitted to beating the other man with a tree branch and with his fists until he noticed people walking in the alley.

Police said they received a call about the altercation at around 8:27 p.m. Officials said a caller advised dispatch that one man was hitting the other with a tree branch in the alley.

Upon arrival, officers said they discovered a man dead.

Bird was charged with an open count of murder and was booked into Metropolitan Detention Center.
