ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque police have arrested a man accused of a fatal road rage shooting near Old Town early last month.

Josh Butler, 29, is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence. He has been booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Butler is accused of fatally shooting Nelson Gallegos Jr. in front of the Central Grill on Oct. 6.

According to a witness, the driver of a gray Honda Odyssey minivan, later identified as Gallegos, stopped while traffic was still moving on Central.

The witness told police Gallegos got out of his vehicle and walked around the rear of his van until a truck passed. Gallegos reportedly threw a piece of drywall, striking the front driver’s side of a passing, gray Chevrolet extended cab truck.

The driver of the truck shot and killed Gallegos.

According to the arrest warrant, a white substance appearing to be sheetrock residue was found on Butler’s truck. Police also reportedly found four guns, including a revolver that had been disassembled.
