APD: High-speed crash claims one life

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A man is dead after a fatal rollover crash Thursday night in northeast Albuquerque.

APD responded shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday to a fatal single-vehicle crash at the intersection of the northbound I-25 Frontage Road and Jefferson Street.

Detectives pieced together details and discovered the vehicle went airborne after passing through the intersection and crashing through a metal fence. The vehicle landed in an undeveloped, arroyo-like area, then went airborne again.

While airborne, the vehicle struck a retaining wall and fence and began to flip in the air. The vehicle eventually came to rest in a nearby hotel parking lot.

A witness told officers that he was following the man from one bar to another. The witness stated he knew the deceased driver – and what his first name was – but did not know if he had been drinking.

Police say speeding was evident. The witness told police the driver was speeding but was unsure of how fast he was going.

The investigation is ongoing.
