APD identifies man who barricaded self in gas station Thursday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – APD identified a man who broke into a northwest Albuquerque gas station and barricaded himself inside Thursday morning.

Estevan Marquez was arrested by officers, who received a call at 1:45 a.m. about Marquez breaking into the Speedway gas station, at 924 Rio Grande Blvd NW. Officers arrived at the scene and blocked off parts of Rio Grande Boulevard near the scene at around 5:30 a.m.

The crisis intervention team was called to the scene after learning the man threatened to hurt himself. The man exited the building at around 7:30 a.m. and was talking to the team before trying to run off with a bag full of cigarettes. A police dog helped detain the man, who was eventually tackled and arrested.

The eastbound Rio Grande exit was blocked off, south of I-40, while authorities were on scene.
