Bernalillo County headquarters to remain closed Wednesday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Bernalillo County headquarters will remain closed through Wednesday, Oct. 13.

Due to high winds Tuesday, outdoor scaffolding was unable to take place to address broken glass on the fifth, sixth and seventh-story levels of the building at Alvarado Square.

Gunshots were fired at the building Monday morning, causing the glass to break and – as of Tuesday afternoon – continue to fall into the customer service lobby on the ground floor. The county is planning to secure the broken windows with wood until new windows can be installed in about four months.

According to county officials, security officers were at the building on Monday when the shooting occurred but they were not injured.

Employees will work from home again as APD and BCSO investigate the situation at the recently-renovated county headquarters.

County headquarters have been closed since Monday due to the incident.
