FARMINGTON, N.M.- Children as young as 12 years old can get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in the Four Corners.

Some school district officials hope that soon means a more normal classroom

"In order to have the most effective and efficient delivery of education, we have to have our students at school just like we have to have our staff at school," said Kirk Carpenter, superintendent of Aztec schools. "You know, vaccinations are very important in doing that. And unfortunately, we have a lot of students that get quarantine because of close contact those things can be removed if we get vaccinations."

Across state lines, La Plata and Archuleta counties are also ready to get vaccines in the arms of children.

Vaccine clinics began offering them Thursday.

San Juan Basin Public Health will be offering more appointments for the age group.
