Cooks Peak Fire

The Cooks Peak Fire is nearing full containment north of Ocate, around 46 miles north of Las Vegas. It is expected to be 100% contained by Friday evening.

The Type 3 Incident Management Team that has been managing the fire will transition to a local Type 4 organization.

Most resources will be demobilized but about 20 firefighters will continue to patrol, monitor and mop up the area.

Smoke from the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire will likely continue in the Cooks Peak Fire area.

As May 13, the fire remains at:

  • Acreage — 59,359 acres
  • Containment — 97%
  • Total Personnel — 84

The fire is believed to be human-caused but it is still under investigation.
