ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — La Cueva is just nine days away from kicking off the season.

They open with Cibola on Aug. 21. On Wednesday night, they got to scrimmage with Atrisco Heritage.

The Bears are hungry to start the season after going 0-3 in the spring.

"I think overall, just getting better every day, still got a lot of work to do before Cibola," said Aidan Armenta, La Cueva quarterback. "I think we’re just gonna keep getting better every day, that’s all we can do at this point. We just got to keep working, keep getting conditioned so we will be ready by game day."

Brandon Back, the head coach for La Cueva, said the scrimmage with Atrisco Heritage was a good one.

"Team like Atrisco is very talented, a lot of great kids out there and I know the coaching staff works hard," Back said. "So it was good to go up against a good opponent and try to knock some of that rust off."
