New video shows shooting outside Valley High School

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Folks were ordered to shelter-in-place after a basketball game Tuesday night after witnesses heard several shots ring out.

Police said the incident took place in the school parking lot around 8:30 p.m. where casings were found.

Upon arrival, officers assisted APS officers in ensuring all attendees were safe.

New video sent to KOB 4 appears to show the moments gunfire erupted outside Valley High School Tuesday night, just moments after a basketball game against Atrisco Heritage.

"It was scary, like my friend Claudia was, was terrified for her daughters who were here, we were all terrified,” said Stephanie Tafoya, Valley High School parent.

In a letter to parents — Albuquerque Public Schools said students and fans were asked to shelter in place while police investigated.

One witness said they were kept inside a locker room for nearly an hour. And despite the panic — most students were left in the dark.

"I heard that nobody was hurt, they sent out a parent letter apparently, I don’t know if we got one, I just saw it on Instagram,” said Aspyn Morgen, Valley High School student.

APD confirmed there were no reported injuries but said multiple shell casings were found in the area.

Students say they’re unfortunately getting used to these threats.

"So the first time we had a threat here, it was really scary, I was like what’s happening, but it’s happened a couple times now, and like every single time, everybody’s been fine, so it’s kind of desensitized me I guess,” said Morgen.

This marks the third time KOB 4 reported a shooting threat at APS this school year. Back in September- Sandia High School sheltered-in-place after a student reportedly opened fire at a car in a nearby parking lot. That student was injured and taken to the hospital.

Just one month later, Wilson Stadium was evacuated during a football game after a credible shooting threat. No one was injured in that incident but parents believe it’s only a matter of time.

"It’s nerve-wracking, my daughter is doing fine, but it’s nerve-wracking because we don’t know what the other kids are going to do, it’s just they’re out of control," said Tafoya.
