FARMINGTON, N.M.- It’s no secret, San Juan county is dry.

"Right now, more than 70% of the county is in for extreme drought," said Devin Neeley, public information officer for San Juan County.

To combat the drought, county commissioners adopted an Emergency Drought Declaration.

"We’re asking folks to be careful with their water consumption," Neeley said. "If you can reduce in any way, shape or form, please start working on it."

The county is not issuing any open burns permits to reduce man-made fires.

The county could receive state or federal funding if and when needed to help respond to the issues that may be in response to the drought.
