San Juan County narrowly missing moving into yellow

FARMINGTON, N.M.- San Juan County barely missed moving into the yellow level of restrictions.

To get into yellow, a county needs to have a COVID-19 test positivity rate of 5% or less. San Juan County reported a 5.01% positivity rate.

Restaurants were disappointed after learning they still couldn’t offer indoor dining.

"It is what it is at this point, and I think you’re going to find a lot of people, especially in the restaurant industry, finally starting to say I’m fed up with it and suffer the consequences, but you have to do what you have to do to make a living and try to survive," said Randy Hodge, owner of Rubia’s.

Rubia’s will continue to offer outdoor dining and takeout services. Its mini grocery store also remains open.

The mayor of Farmington wants answers from the state. He believes San Juan County should be in yellow.

"We’ve been working to try to figure this problem out because the numbers are reported on the state’s website, as far as cases, a number of tests positive cases, and test does not match the number that they gave us that keeps us in the red," said Mayor Nate Duckett.

Local officials will now be working with the state to see how they can fix the problem.
