ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Police arrested a suspect Wednesday who they believe was involved in several bank robberies in Albuquerque.
The FBI says Jason Smeltzer, 39, is responsible for six bank robberies – including a robbery Wednesday at the Western Commerce Bank in northeast Albuquerque.
The Western Commerce Bank was reportedly robbed twice in 24 hours by Smeltzer.
According to the police report, Smeltzer confessed to all the robberies. Before his arrest, Wednesday’s bank robbery was the 27th unsolved bank robbery in the metro since the first week of December.
Smeltzer was booked into MDC on state charges, where he will stay until a district court hearing. He told police he used the money to fund a drug addiction.
