Skilled 4 Work: How to start a cosmetology career
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Denise Reyes is sticking with her passion – after a years-long detour – to pursue a fulfilling career.
Reyes was going to cosmetology school three years ago, but life had other plans and she had a daughter.
"I came to get my hair done with her and then she, kind of, we talked about me going back to school," Reyes said.
Now she’s back at CNM, finishing her final cosmetology lab.
"I don’t wanna always be looking for the next better job and what pays best," Reyes said. "I wanted to be doing what I love and what makes me happy."
Reyes was covered by financial aid, and she said her credits picked right back up where she left off. CNM’s 5-term course gets her an associate’s degree and the tools to launch her own career – not to mention the flexibility to set her own schedule and joy of making others feel good about themselves.
