ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Funny Fiesta is back and bigger than ever.

The 4-day comedy fest is bringing together more than 80 performers of all varieties – stand-up comedians, improv troupes, magicians, and drag queens.

Kate Willett is headlining this year’s Funny Fiesta. She’s a comedian, actress, and writer who has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Netflix’s Comedy Lineup.

While she’s a big name in the comedy world, organizers say the event is truly showcasing New Mexico’s local talent.

“We want everybody to know that comedy happens here in Albuquerque, and that it’s really very good, and that it’s worth checking out,” said Sarah Kennedy, co-owner of Dry Heat Comedy Club, which is one of the Funny Fiesta venues. “Most of the people that we brought in from out of town, formerly lived here. Now they’re doing their thing in Austin, LA, and other towns. So this is our chance to get them to return here, which is amazing.”

Dry Heat Comedy Club is just one of several venues hosting this year’s Funny Fiesta. There are a few shows in the North Valley and northeast Albuquerque.

The fest begins Thursday night, Sept. 21, and runs through Sunday night, Sept. 24.
