Bernalillo County selects artist for downtown Albuquerque project

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bernalillo County selected the artist for a large-scale public art project at the county’s headquarters in downtown Albuquerque.

Ivan Toth Depeña, a nationally and internationally recognized artist, was approved for the project Monday by the county arts board.

Depeña’s proposal is described as “a colorful, architecturally integrated outdoor sculpture.” It will be placed on the west-facing exterior wall of the building.

Depeña will work with the county’s architecture and facilities team to ensure his work is durable and stands up to the elements.

Bernalillo County Commissioners are set to approve the artist’s project during their August 22 meeting.

The project is set to begin this fall and be completed in early-2025. The budget for the project is $200,000 in general obligation bond funds.
