ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — If you’re looking for a job, you now have the chance to work for one of the U.S.’s largest companies.

Amazon’s fulfillment center is hiring 1,600 New Mexico employees as they gear up for a busy holiday shopping season.

“Whether you’re looking for a full-time position that comes with benefits starting on day one, or if you’re just looking for a seasonal job to help you with those holiday expenses, we hope to have you covered,” said Zoe Richmond, a spokesperson for Amazon.

Amazon has a huge impact on New Mexico’s economic growth, the company says – around $900 million.

“We are very, very proud of the deep roots that we’ve been able to put down in New Mexico very, very quickly,” Richmond said.

The positions they’re hiring for are primarily for their logistics network. They’re the people who make sure you get your package delivered in one piece.

The company also invested more than $1 billion in pay increases.

“Amazon offers really competitive pay. The pay range starts from $17-28 an hour. And that really depends on both the position and the shift that people apply for,” Richmond said.

According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, while Amazon hires more people, other U.S. retailers aren’t doing the same.

Fewer people are expected to shop in brick-and-mortar stores due to higher prices.
