ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — APD’s Motor Unit is investigating after a man was struck and killed on Central Avenue over Saturday night.

Police say at first, officers responded around 9:30 p.m. to Central Avenue and San Mateo Boulevard in regards to a fatal crash.

Upon arrival, police say officers discovered a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

Accordion to APD, a waitress saw a male pedestrian crossing south across Central Avenue – outside of a crosswalk – when an eastbound silver Chevy truck struck him.

Officials say the truck drove away at first but returned to the scene. They say, at this time, the cause of the crash appears to be pedestrian error.

There are no pending charges at this time. Speed or alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor for the truck driver.

This is an ongoing investigation.
