APD searches for murder suspect following downtown shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A woman was fatally shot early Monday in downtown Albuquerque.
Around 1:15 a.m., Albuquerque police officers reportedly witnessed a physical dispute between a man and a woman at 3rd Street NW and Central Avenue NW. Officers then saw the man shoot the woman. An officer fired at the suspect but the suspect wasn’t struck and then fled.
The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was identified as 21-year-old Melina Jones.
