Back-to-school giveaway Sunday at Matheson Park

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — This Sunday, a local motorcycle ministry is hosting a backpack and school supplies giveaway at Matheson Park.

Los Capellanes is hosting the giveaway Sunday, Aug. 14, when over a hundred backpacks and school supplies will be donated to Matheson Park Elementary School.

“This is our backyard, you know, this is our grounds here, so we like to give back to the community,” said Doug Anaya, the president of Los Capellanes Motorcycle Ministry. “Because the truth of the matter is that, these kids will hopefully become bikers one day and so they’ll remember, ‘Man I remember those bikers came and they were able to help us,’ and hopefully they’ll do the same exact thing.”

Free haircuts will also be provided for the kids. The group says they still need more backpacks and school supply donations to meet the demand, as well as barbers and hair stylists to attend and donate their time.
