ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Fourth of July is a time of fun and celebration but it can be deadly if the celebration combines drinking and driving.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving New Mexico works to end drunk driving and to fight drunk driving and underage drinking altogether, while also supporting drunk driving victims.

Sara Fisher, the MADD NM program manager, says the Fourth of July weekend is historically known as one of the deadliest times for drunk-driving crashes. Alcohol is often involved in celebrations and, in 2020, over 41% of deadly crashes were caused by drunk driving.

To prevent these crashes, Bernalillo County is offering the $10 Take a Ride on Us ride credit for the weekend, using code: LIBERTY22. More details are available on the county’s website.
