DEXTER N.M. — A man was found and arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a woman last December.
The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday an on-call sergeant spotted Hector Aguayo-Salazar standing outside a home at the 100 block of West Darby Street in Dexter. After the sergeant completed his call, he returned to the location but Aguayo-Salazar was gone.
Deputies arrived at the scene, locked the residence down and began calling for Aguayo-Salazar to come out. Eventually, he exited the residence and was arrested.
Hector Aguayo-Salazar was wanted for murder and tampering with evidence in the deadly Dec. 22 shooting of Estefania Martinez.
Court records indicate that, during an argument with Aguayo-Salazar at a trailer off of Miller Road, Martinez was reportedly shot once in the chest. When deputies arrived at the trailer, Aguayo-Salazar was gone but a vehicle registered to him was still there.
