Evacuations recommended near Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak burn scar due to flooding

SAN MIGUEL COUNTY — The following communities have been placed in Warning: Take Action Status Canoncito, Manuelita, and Sapello, Gascon, Rociada, Lower Rociada, and Las Dispensas.

Under the Warning: Take Action Status, residents are advised to evacuate to a safe place away from the possible debris flow areas. If you are unable to evacuate, seek higher ground and do not attempt to cross a flooded roadway.

Excessive runoff and growth to river and creek channels may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Evacuation Statuses Friday afternoon:

Sapello Watershed

Manuelitas Creek: Canoncito, Manuelita, and Sapello

Maestas Creek: Lower Rociada

Rito San Jose: Gascon, Rociada and Lower Rociada

Gallinas Watershed

Greater Gallinas: Las Dispensas

San Miguel County Road Closures: NM 65 is closed at mile post 15.
