ROSWELL, N.M. – In the span of a week, the yard at the Roswell Homeless Coalition men’s home went from a dirt lot to looking like brand new.

The cement, trees and bushes were a donation from someone in the community wanting to make a change.

“It has been on the prayer list for a long time. We just received a visit from a very beautiful person that asked us, what was our need,” says Yazzmine Lujan the director of Roswell Homeless Coalition. “We have a lot of things, but one thing that we didn’t have was a place for our men to have a place of their own to just relax, and get away from it all in the midst of going through challenges.”

Lujan says this space will help men have a sense of a home.

“I think it is definitely going to show the people that live here that they matter, and that they are loved. And that they have a place to go outside of whatever, whatever may be going on on the inside,” says Lujan. “It’s just they get a sense of saying this, a little bit of me is here. So when they transition, they can say, ‘I remember when I was there when that happened.’ So it’s a beautiful thing.”

“The clients that got to see it, they sat there, and they just sat there and just looking and gazing things. It’s a beautiful sight. It feels it’s like, different,” said Samuel Hernandez, a housing manager for the Roswell Homeless Coalition.

They say they’re grateful for every donation they get.
