Judge sets trial dates for ‘Rust’ armorer

SANTA FE, N.M. — The armorer on the “Rust” film set will go on trial in December, facing charges in connection to a fatal shooting on the set near Santa Fe.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer set the trial of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed for December 6-15. Jury selection begins December 5.

Gutierrez-Reed waived her arraignment Wednesday. She pleaded not guilty to one count each of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence.

Last week, her attorney tried getting the judge to dismiss those charges. He argued prosecutors improperly handled evidence and gave statements interfering with the right to an impartial jury.

The judge, however, kept the charges in place, arguing any determinations would be made during a preliminary hearing, which Gutierrez-Reed later waived.

Gutierrez-Reed’s trial will take place in Santa Fe.
