RIO RANCHO, N.M. – The La Cueva football team had to forfeit their season opener win against Rio Rancho High School from two weeks ago.

Rio Rancho High School’s athletic director told KOB 4 it’s because one of the Bear’s players was ineligible to play that game, but played anyway.

KOB 4 reached out to APS athletic officials on more specifics, but hasn’t heard back yet.

La Cueva was ranked second in class 6A during that game. The Bears went from 1-1 to 0-2.

Meanwhile, Rio Rancho’s record improves to 2-0.
