Man dies following medical emergency at Metropolitan Detention Center

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — County officials have confirmed that an inmate at the Metropolitan Detention Center died Wednesday following a medical emergency.

48-year-old Robert Torivio was pronounced dead at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, reportedly about 20 minutes after paramedics arrived at the jail. MDC and the UNM Hospital Rapid Response team also attempted to save the man’s life.

The MDC Office of Professional Standards and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the incident. The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator is still working to determine the cause of death.
